Sir Alex, are you feeling a little cheeky?

I wonder why did Sir Alex Ferguson all of a sudden decided to bring in Michael Owen to Old Trafford. Owen was only weighing the offers from Premier League strugglers Stoke and Hull until a surprise buzz from Sir Alex made the Anfield legend change his mind. At his current form he definitely not a like for like replacement neither Ronaldo nor Tevez. Chances are he might click with Rooney but that is yet to be seen. One sure thing is Sir Alex has the ability to bring the best out from all his players. Not to forget with the World Cup is looming next summer, this could be the best decision for Owen to prove himself and increase his chances to be recalled to the national squad. Thus, the reported significant salary reduction that he accepted might be justified.

Since 1964 there have only been 3 players who have played for both these clubs. Owen is certainly the most high profile player of the trio. Next season, both this club will be breathing on each others neck chasing the elusive 19th premiership title, an achievement which will make Man Utd snatch away the greatest club in the English Football League history title from Liverpool for the very first time. To put the matters worse, Liverpool has just uplifted themselves from being a mere top four finisher to title contender last season just in time to frustrate Ferguson. This was pretty obvious as he willingly started a spat with Benitez after Christmas when Liverpool was sitting on the pinnacle of the table. Not forgetting the massive scar that was left on him after the two league losses Man Utd incurred at the hands of Liverpool which includes a humiliating home defeat.

Thus, I have every reason to believe that Ferguson is trying to accomplish the elusive feat by including Owen who is still adored by Anfield fans. You are definitely trying to be a little cheeky, aren't you Sir Alex?

With the huge transfer kitty he has from the departure of Ronaldo, I am sure Ferguson can splash on more prolific forwards. Owen has yet to prove himself ever since he left Anfield  five years ago and he has been frequently kept on the sidelines due to injuries.

However I wish all the best to the true Anfield legend and hopefully he will find his way to South Africa. Just that dont find your form against the Scoucers.
